The Costa Rican RedLeg (Abdomegaphobema mesomelas) is one of the most striking and legendary tarantulas in the world. With its Massive size, velvety black body and fiery red-orange legs, this spider’s vibrant appearance is nothing short of mesmerizing. Reaching a massive 8+ inches in leg span, this species is a true giant and a showpiece for any collection. The Costa Rican Redleg isn’t just a visual marvel—it moves with the deliberate grace of a tropical predator. For years, the Costa Rican Red Leg was considered a near-mythical species in the U.S. hobby. Breeding them has always been a monumental challenge, and for a time, it seemed they might disappear completely. However, thanks to recent breakthroughs, the first captive-bred egg sac has revived this species’ place in the hobby. This particular Abdomegaphobema mesomelas is a rare gem. At over 3 inches in leg span, she’s growing gracefully and is already starting to exhibit her bold, vibrant coloration. Her feeding response is nothing short of spectacular—when prey enters her enclosure, she lunges with such enthusiasm that she occasionally flips onto her back, prey firmly in her grasp! This unique behavior adds to her charm, making her as entertaining as she is stunning. This tarantula is not just a pet—it’s a living piece of art, a symbol of the rainforest’s untamed beauty, and a true conversation starter. The Costa Rican Redleg is a testament to the wonder of nature, offering you a chance to care for and observe one of the most unique species in the tarantula world. Don’t wait—specimens of this caliber are rarely available. Secure your opportunity to own this magnificent creature before it’s gone!

Experience level - intermediate

Personality - Doesn’t tolerate handling that well, defensive, nervous…. Will become more confident as an adult spending most of her time out in the open of her enclosure! However i really don’t recommend you handle this species!

Adult size - 8+ inches DLS

Current size - 3.5 inches DLS

Age - 2 years old

Growth Rate - Slow to medium

Care - This tarantula has very particular care requirements! For one, they need high humidity but will not tolerate swampy substrate! I recommend using a drainage layer that way the substrate wont stay soaked! They also require ventilation holes as still and stagnant air can become problematic for this species! Give them a large terrestrial enclosure. Lastly, this species is native to the cool cloud forests of Costa Rica so keep this species on the cooler side (65 - 75 degrees)
