Care & Husbandry Guide

🏠 Enclosure & Substrate

Use a fossorial terrestrial enclosure with several inches of compactable substrate and plenty of cork bark, branches, moss, or other anchor points near the surface. Orangesickles are incredible webbers and will often connect their burrow to a large above-ground web fortress. Giving them plenty of surface structure can encourage more visible webbing and make the tarantula easier to observe.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

Keep this species around 72–78°F with moderate moisture and good ventilation. The lower layers of substrate can remain slightly moist, but the enclosure should never be swampy or stagnant. Allow the surface to stay somewhat drier while maintaining moisture deeper in the substrate, giving the tarantula the ability to choose the conditions it prefers.

🍽️ Feeding & Water

Orangesickles have an excellent feeding response and grow quickly when fed consistently. Offer growing specimens an appropriately sized cricket or roach about once a week, while large adults can be fed every 7–14 days depending on body condition. Keep part of the lower substrate slightly moist and provide access to water when practical. Since this species webs heavily and may bury its water dish, check regularly to make sure water remains accessible.

The Thailand Orangesickle is a fast-growing Old World species that does best with plenty of substrate and lots of anchor points for webbing. They are heavy webbers and will quickly turn their enclosure into a thick network of tunnels and silk. Slings tend to be shy and spend more time hidden, while larger specimens often become much more confident and visible. This species is extremely fast and has medically significant venom, so it should be treated as a display animal and is best suited for experienced keepers.
