The Thailand Orangesickle (Chilobrachys sp. Orange)

A Blazing Orange Beast!

Meet one of the most electrifying additions to the tarantula hobby — The Thailand Orangesickle Tarantula (Chilobrachys sp. Orange)! First introduced to the U.S. hobby in late 2022, this jaw-dropping Old World species has skyrocketed in popularity and it’s no surprise why. Chilobrachys sp. Orange is an absolute visual powerhouse. With shimmering, fiery orange hairs dusting its long, elegant legs, this spider practically glows under the right lighting. It’s one of the few tarantulas that can truly compete with the legendary OBT (Orange Baboon Tarantula) in terms of coloration, but it offers an entirely different personality!

Massive Size and Master Web-Architect

Reaching an impressive 7–8 inches in diagonal leg span, the Thailand Orangesickle is no small contender. Despite its Old World reputation, it’s often found confidently resting out in the open, especially when provided with secure hiding spots. This makes it not just a beast in size, but also a striking display tarantula that’ll constantly catch your attention! But what truly sets this species apart is its webbing behavior. With massive spinnerets and a relentless drive to engineer its environment, Chilobrachys sp. Orange will transform its enclosure into a dense, white silken fortress. Feeding time is a spectacle — watching this tarantula rocket from its hide at lightning speed to ambush prey is like watching a live nature documentary unfold in your home!

Lightning Fast Growth

Like most Chilobrachys species, the Thailand Orangesickle grows at neck-breaking speeds. Pair that with its voracious appetite, and you’ve got a spider that rockets from sling to impressive adult size in no time. This fast growth, combined with its exceptional beauty and webbing habits, makes it a must-have for advanced keepers. That being said, as an Old World species, this tarantula is not recommended for handling. It possesses medically significant venom, a speedy sprint, and is best appreciated from a respectful distance — but as a display and showcase species, it’s simply unbeatable. If you’re looking to add a centerpiece to your collection, the Thailand Orangesickle Tarantula is a guaranteed showstopper. Get yours while they’re still available in the hobby — this is one you don’t want to miss!

Experience level - Intermediate! This species does contain medically significant venom and can move fast

Personality - shy and skittish as slings but will become more confident once it reaches 5 - 6 inches DLS

Adult size - 7 to 8 inches DLS

Growth Rate - Fast!

Life Span - 18 to 20 years!

Chilobrachys sp. Orange Care - Keep this tarantula in a fossorial enclosure with plenty of anchor points! This will allow your tarantula to make her web fortress on top of the substrate opposed to inside of the substrate… which is optimal if you want to actually see your tarantula! Additionally keep her substrate moist and I don’t recommend a water dish as this species will just burry it in web!
