Care & Husbandry Guide

🏠 Enclosure & Substrate

Use a terrestrial enclosure with approximately 3–5 inches of compactable substrate, a cork-bark hide, and a water dish. Curly Hairs will often dig, expand their hide, or completely rearrange their enclosure, so deeper substrate is useful. Keep climbing height relatively low since adults are heavy-bodied terrestrial tarantulas and can be injured from a fall.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

Keep this species around 70–78°F with moderate moisture and good ventilation. Adults don’t need an overly humid enclosure; keeping most of the substrate relatively dry while occasionally moistening one corner works well. Slings and smaller juveniles should be kept slightly more moist while they establish. Avoid constantly wet or stagnant conditions.

 🍽️ Feeding & Water 

Curly Hairs are excellent eaters and growing juveniles can be offered an appropriately sized cricket or roach about once a week. Adults can usually be fed every 7–14 days, depending on body condition. Keep a clean water dish available at all times and don’t be concerned if an adult occasionally refuses food for extended periods, especially when approaching a molt.
