The Chilean Blue Femur (Euathlus truculentus)
A lesser Known Rarity!
Meet one of Chile’s rarest hidden gems—the Chilean Blue Femur! Scientifically known as Euathlus truculentus, this stunning terrestrial species is one of the most underrated tarantulas in the entire hobby. Native to the mountainous deserts of Chile, this species is built to endure—making it an excellent choice for both seasoned keepers and first-time hobbyists. What sets Euathlus truculentus apart are its mesmerizing metallic purple femurs that shimmer under light, contrasted by a forest-green carapace and velvety black legs. Photos truly don’t do this species justice—this spider glows with a subtle radiance that has to be seen in person to truly appreciate. Though not as large as some giants of the hobby, this species reaches a respectable 5.5 to 6 inches in leg span and makes up for its size with personality and poise.
Edgy appearance, Docile Demeanor
The Chilean Blue Femur is incredibly docile, calm, and surprisingly curious—often wandering straight onto your hand the moment you open its enclosure. Think of it as the Chilean cousin to the Brazilian Black, but with way more color and a quirky, inquisitive charm. Euathlus truculentus is also extremely hardy, capable of tolerating dry climates, long fasts, and wide temperature swings thanks to its high-altitude origins. It’s a painfully slow grower—but for collectors who appreciate long-lived, low-maintenance species with rare beauty and relaxed behavior, this is an absolute must-have.This is one of the few tarantulas that really does have it all: rarity, hardiness, stunning looks, and a temperament so calm it feels like it’s in slow motion. Don’t miss the opportunity to own one of the most special and under-appreciated tarantulas in the entire hobby!
