Care & Husbandry Guide

🏠 Enclosure & Substrate

Provide a terrestrial enclosure with a few inches of compactable substrate and plenty of open floor space. A cork-bark hide can be offered, although larger specimens commonly spend plenty of time sitting completely out in the open. Because G. grossa are large, heavy-bodied terrestrials, prioritize horizontal space and keep excessive climbing height to a minimum.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

Keep this species around 68–78°F with mostly dry to slightly moist conditions and good ventilation. Established specimens are very hardy and don’t require constantly damp substrate or high humidity. A clean water dish and occasional moisture in one area of the enclosure are plenty. Avoid keeping the entire enclosure wet or stagnant.

🍽️ Feeding & Water

G. grossa are excellent eaters but have the slower metabolism typical of Grammostola. Growing specimens can be offered an appropriately sized cricket or roach about once a week, while larger animals can be fed every 7–14 days depending on body condition. Always provide a clean water dish. Extended fasting is completely normal, especially before a molt.
