The Chilean Orange Fluff - Grammostola maule

A Creamy Orange Fluff-Ball!

The Grammostola maule, commonly known as the Chilean Orange Fluff, is one of the most charming and underrated tarantulas to ever come out of Chile. Native to the cool, temperate regions surrounding the Maule Valley, this species perfectly represents everything hobbyists love about Chilean/Grammostola tarantulas. A calm temperament, hardy nature, and beautiful  coloration with a warm creamy orange twist that makes it stand out from all its relatives.

What immediately draws attention to the Chilean Orange Fluff is its incredibly fuzzy appearance. The body is covered in dense, soft-looking setae that give the spider an almost plush, velvety texture. A light charcoal mask covers its eyes and is accented by warm orange and ivory white hairs that glow across the legs and abdomen.. Under natural light the orange tones become even richer, giving this species a warm, fiery glow that collectors instantly fall in love with.

One of the Most Docile Tarantulas in the Hobby 🍊

Despite its incredibly striking appearance, Grammostola maule is known for having one of the calmest personalities of any tarantula species. True to the reputation of the Grammostola genus, this species is slow-moving, relaxed, and exceptionally docile, making it an outstanding choice for both new keepers and experienced collectors. Many specimens spend majority of time calmly resting out in the open rather than hiding away, which makes them fantastic display tarantulas. Their peaceful demeanor combined with their unbelievably fluffy orange coloration creates a spider that is not only beautiful, but also incredibly enjoyable to observe.

Size and Care…

Growing to an impressive 6 inches in diagonal leg span, the Chilean Orange Fluff develops into a medium-large tarantula that perfectly balances size, beauty, and manageable care. Like most Grammostola species, they grow slowly, but this slow growth rewards keepers with an extremely hardy, long-lived tarantula that thrives under simple husbandry. A dry terrestrial enclosure with good ventilation, substrate, and a water dish is all this species needs to flourish, especially when kept at room temperatures similar to the cool regions of Chile they originate from.

Rarest Grammostola species?

One of the biggest reasons the Grammostola maule (Chilean Orange Fluff) has become so coveted is simply how incredibly difficult it is to find true, pure bloodline specimens. For decades, the majority of Chilean tarantulas entering the United States were broadly labeled as Grammostola rosea or Grammostola porteri, often with little to no regard for their true locality/species identity. As a result, many Chilean Grammostola in the hobby today are poorly labeled or mixed bloodlines, making verified pure G. maule extremely scarce. On top of that, Chile has long enforced strict export restrictions on native wildlife, which means practically zero new specimens have entered the hobby in recent years. Because of this combination of historical misidentification, hybridized bloodlines, and limited imports, locating genuine Grammostola maule has become exceptionally difficult. Making true specimens one of the most elusive and desirable Chilean tarantulas a collector can own.
