Provide a terrestrial enclosure with a few inches of mostly dry, compactable substrate and plenty of open floor space. A cork-bark hide can be offered, although established Chacos regularly choose to sit completely out in the open. Keep excessive climbing height low since adults become large, heavy-bodied terrestrial tarantulas.

Keep this species around 68–78°F with mostly dry conditions and good ventilation. Established specimens don’t require high humidity or constantly damp substrate. Smaller slings can receive a little additional moisture while establishing, but larger juveniles and adults generally thrive with mostly dry substrate and constant access to fresh water.

G. pulchripes are reliable eaters but have the slower metabolism typical of Grammostola, so they don’t need heavy feeding. Growing specimens can be offered an appropriately sized cricket or roach about once a week, while larger animals can be fed every 7–14 days depending on body condition. Always provide a clean water dish, and don’t be concerned by occasional periods of fasting around a molt.
