Blue and Gold Curtain Web Spider (Linothele Sericata)

A Gold and Blue Web Weaver!

Step aside, tarantulas—there’s a new eight-legged legend in town. Introducing the Blue and Gold Curtain Web Spider (Linothele sericata), a jaw-dropping species of curtain web spider that’s quickly taking the hobby by storm. Native to the cloud forests of Ecuador, this true spider isn’t just rare—it’s mesmerizing. Imagine a spider clad in iridescent midnight-blue armor, its femurs and tibiae drenched in deep sapphire and cobalt hues that flash electric under direct light. Topped off with a burnished golden carapace that shimmers at the center of its body, while its long, exaggerated spinnerets rise like twin antennae—broadcasting its ability to build MASSIVE silk structures!

Web Architect Extraordinaire

What set’s Linothele Sericata apart isn’t just its exotic looks—it’s the architectural wonder it builds. This species doesn’t just web—it floods its enclosure in silk, weaving dense, layered curtains that hang like ghostly drapes across every surface. Given the space, it will create towering silk fortresses that blur the line between spider habitat and art installation. And when prey enters its kingdom? It’s lights out. Linothele sericata doesn’t stalk—it ambushes. With lightning reflexes and predatory precision, it pounces with the ferocity of a tiger.

Not a Tarantula, But Just As Impressive

Despite its similarities to tarantulas in size and care, Linothele sericata belongs to a different family entirely—Dipluridae. It lacks the climbing claws found on tarantulas, meaning it can’t scale glass or plastic and relies heavily on its webbing for mobility. Give it anchor points, and it’ll reward you with a jungle of silk and nonstop activity. While fast and high-strung, it’s more of a visual display animal, thriving best when left to build, hunt, and reign over its territory undisturbed.

Experience level - Beginner to Intermediate (This species has the potential to move very fastly but cannot climb smooth surfaces making it much easier to work with)

Personality - fast moving, non-defensive and skittish

Life span - 10 to 15+ years!

Adult size - 6+ inches DLS

Growth rate- Medium!

Care - Keep this tarantula in a semi arboreal enclosure (both wide and tall) with plenty of space and anchor points! This will allow your Blue and Golden Curtain Web Spider to make grand web structures! Additionally give this girl moist substrate and a quick pray once a week I don’t recommend using a water dish as she will absolutely burry it in webbing!
