The Most Communal Tarantula Species!Ā

The Socotra Island Blue Baboon (Monocentropus balfouri) is one of the most captivating and communal tarantula species in the hobby. Renowned for their vibrant blue coloration and remarkable communal tendencies, the Monocentropus balfouri hails from the secluded Socotra Island, located off the coast of Africa. Unlike many old-world species,Ā M. balfouri is calm, relaxed, and peaceful. However, as with any old world tarantula, handling should be done with caution—their venom is medically significant, despite there lack of defensive behaviors. What truly sets this species apart is their highly communal nature. Keepers around the world have successfully raised colonies of hundreds—even thousands—ofĀ M. balfouri living harmoniously together. Watching their cooperative feeding behavior is nothing short of mesmerizing. From their royal blue beauty to their fascinating communal dynamics, this species is a must-have! After three years of carefully breeding and selecting specimens with the most vibrant blue coloration, ive been able to produce High Blue M. balfouri and these juveniles are among the best you’ll find. Don’t miss the chance to own this extraordinary species and bring a piece of Socotra Island’s natural beauty into your home.

Monocentropus balfouri Care - Give them a 10 to 12 inch fossorial enclosure with at least 3 inches of substrate! Keep in mind they’re going to smother everything in thick white webbing when decorating there enclosure! Furthermore, keep this species dry! I like to very lightly water the surface of their environment only once a week and if anyone is thirsty they’ll drink the droplets that land on their webbing! Try your best not to overwater… this species will thrive in bone dry substrate and will get a majority of its moisture from its prey and the rest from light surface spraying!Ā
