Nhandu tripepi – Strawberry Blonde Bird Eater
The Pink Giant Every Collector Needs
If you’ve been searching for a tarantula that genuinely earns the title of “pink,” your search ends here. Nhandu tripepi, better known as the Strawberry Blonde Bird Eater, is easily one of the truest pink tarantulas in the entire hobby. From its rosy salmon legs to its vibrant strawberry-red abdomen and soft blonde carapace, this species looks like it was designed to stand out. Unlike many tarantulas that only show hints of pink under perfect lighting, the Strawberry Blonde proudly wears its color every single day.
A Gargantuan Bird Eater with a Furious Feeding Response
Beauty is only half the story. The Strawberry Blonde Bird Eater is an absolute feeding machine. Few species attack prey with the same speed and confidence, making every feeding day an event. Better yet, this is a fast-growing giant, eventually reaching an impressive 8 to 9 inches DLS, giving you the opportunity to own one of the largest and most colorful New World tarantulas available.
Always on Display
One of the biggest complaints hobbyists have with large terrestrial tarantulas is that they spend most of their lives hidden underground. Not this species. Nhandu tripepi is a remarkably confident tarantula that often sits proudly in the open, allowing you to admire its incredible coloration without having to dig it out of a burrow. If you’re building a display collection, this is exactly the kind of spider you want front and center.
A Surprisingly Confident Giant
Although younger specimens can be a bit more defensive, mature Nhandu tripepi often become surprisingly bold and self-assured. Unlike many large New World species, confident adults rarely rely on kicking urticating hairs as their first line of defense. Instead, they tend to calmly stand their ground, making them fascinating display animals with loads of personality.
One of the Most Underrated Giants in the Hobby
Despite checking nearly every box—massive size, explosive feeding response, gorgeous pink coloration, rapid growth, and excellent display behavior—the Strawberry Blonde Bird Eater remains one of the hobby’s best-kept secrets. If you’re looking for something that stands apart from the typical bird eaters while still delivering everything collectors love about giant terrestrial tarantulas, Nhandu tripepi deserves a place in your collection.
