Give the Blue Blaze a deep fossorial enclosure with plenty of compactable substrate. Starting a burrow against the side of the enclosure using cork bark or a pre-dug tunnel can increase your chances of seeing her underground. They don’t need climbing space, so prioritize substrate depth and a very secure enclosure—this is an extremely fast Old World tarantula when disturbed.

Keep this species around 72–80°F with moderate moisture and good ventilation. I prefer allowing the surface to dry somewhat while keeping the deeper layers of substrate slightly moist. This gives the tarantula a moisture gradient inside its burrow without creating soaking-wet or stagnant conditions.

Hon-Sej are powerful ambush predators with an excellent feeding response. Growing specimens can be offered an appropriately sized cricket or roach about once a week, while larger females can be fed every 7–14 days depending on body condition. Keep a clean water dish available for larger specimens. If the female seals her burrow and refuses food, leave her undisturbed as she may be preparing to molt.
