Care & Husbandry Guide

🏠 Enclosure & Substrate

Give this species a large terrestrial enclosure with several inches of compactable substrate, plenty of floor space, and a cork-bark hide or starter retreat. Younger specimens may dig considerably more, while larger females often become increasingly comfortable sitting out in the open. Keep excessive climbing height low since these become very large, heavy-bodied tarantulas.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

Keep this species around 70–78°F with moderate moisture and good ventilation. I prefer allowing the surface to dry somewhat between watering while keeping a little moisture deeper in the substrate. They don’t need a swampy enclosure, but I also wouldn’t keep them completely bone dry. A clean water dish and occasional localized moisture work extremely well.

🍽️ Feeding & Water

P. insignis have the insane feeding response Pamphobeteus are known for. Growing specimens can be offered an appropriately sized cricket or roach about once a week, while larger females can be fed every 7–14 days depending on body condition. Always provide a large clean water dish and reduce feeding once the abdomen becomes noticeably plump or the tarantula enters premolt.
