Phrixotrichus scrofa (Chilean Pink Starburst)

A one of a kind Chilean Tarantula!

The Phrixotrichus scrofa, commonly known as the Chilean Pink Burst, is one of the most unique tarantulas in the hobby. Rarely seen due to misidentification, strict import laws, and breeding challenges, this stunning species stands out with its fuzzy appearance, docile nature, and unusual behavior. Unlike typical tarantulas, this Chilean tarantula doesn’t burrow or web extensively—it behaves more like a wandering spider, always exploring its enclosure. As a result of their one of a kind personality P. Scrofa has become extremely sought after within the last decade. However due to there unique living habits they have never been produced within the US… Thus, finding this species is nearly impossible

Easy to Care For?

Interestingly, Phrixotrichus Scrofa has a reputation of spontaneously passing… This is especially common among young “second instar” babies… However the Chilean Pink Starburst’s finicky reputation is a result of misinformation surrounding there care… You see since this tarantula is unlike any other tarantula within the hobby, It must be kept like no other tarantula in the hobby. It is an absolute must that you give your Scrofa A water dish, an Arboreal enclosure And loads of cross ventilation! Much like certain species in the Avicularia genus, P. Scrofa’s causing lead of death is stagnant air and lack of access to water right after a molt. Thus keeping the species dry with constant access to water by using of a water dish is an absolute must if you want your Chilean Pink Burst to thrive in captivity! Most importantly, DO NOT BUY 0.25 INCH BABIES! As doing so will put your slings odds of survival at less then 50%. That said, with proper care and Husbandry Nothing compares to the Chilean Pink Burst! Their docile demeanor, curious behavior, epic feeding response and simple care requirements make them One of the coolest and most unique tarantulas any keeper can own

 So Docile As is Beautiful!

With that being said, the Phrixotrichus scrofa is a must-have for any tarantula enthusiast—whether you’re building a collection of Chilean species or simply looking for something truly unique. Its rare availability, charming wandering behavior, and consistently calm, cooperative temperament make it stand out in a way few species can. Even better, it’s more handleable than a Pinktoe and doesn’t come with the sudden jumping tendencies arboreals are known for, making it an ideal choice for keepers of all experience levels. This is one of those spiders that feels special from the moment you get it—beautiful, mellow, and effortlessly rewarding to own. Their dusty rose legs, soft copper tones, and velvety pinkish abdomen give them an almost plush, pastel look that’s instantly eye-catching. Under proper lighting, the subtle blend of warm reds and frosted pinks makes this species look like it walked straight out of a watercolor painting—delicate, elegant, and undeniably stunning.
