Gorgeous and Easy to Care For

Don’t let the Pikachu Crab Spider’s exotic appearance intimidate you—these stunning creatures are remarkably easy to care for. They thrive in arboreal enclosures with vertical space, cork bark, and light foliage. A gentle misting twice a week is more than enough to maintain ideal humidity levels. Feeding is a breeze—simply offer 2–4 small crickets twice a week, that are slightly smaller than the spider itself, and let them hunt at their own pace. Their feeding response is strong, and they often display surprisingly ferocious feeding behavior.

Care & Husbandry Guide

🏠 Enclosure & Substrate

Use an arboreal/foliage-oriented enclosure with cross ventilation, lightly moisture-retentive substrate, broad artificial or live leaves, thin branches, cork, and plenty of elevated hunting surfaces. Don’t leave the enclosure as an empty vertical box—the structure is important. Wild females are documented living on low vegetation and binding leaves together with strong white silk.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

approximately 72–80°F, with moderate humidity and excellent airflow. A captive-care reference recommends roughly 75–82°F during the day, 68–73°F at night, and 60–70% humidity. Rather than chasing an exact humidity number, I would maintain lightly moist substrate, provide drinking droplets, and prioritize ventilation; excessive moisture encourages mold and mites.

🍽️ Feeding & Water

Offer appropriately sized crickets, roaches, flies, or similar insects roughly 1–2 times per week for growing juveniles. Place feeders where they can climb onto foliage or branches—the spider naturally hunts from elevated vegetation rather than searching the ground. Light misting 2–3 times per week provides drinking droplets, while still allowing the enclosure to ventilate and partially dry between mistings.

🕷️ Species-Specific Care

Keep Pikachu Spiders in a well-ventilated arboreal enclosure with plenty of leaves, thin branches, and vertical structure. Moisture is important, particularly for juveniles, but the enclosure should never become soaking wet or stagnant. Lightly moisten the substrate and allow some drying between watering. Most importantly, give them plenty of elevated surfaces where they can sit, hunt, molt, and eventually construct retreats. Your captive-bred juveniles are already 7+ months old, 0.75–1” and past seven molts, so they’re well beyond the tiny, delicate early spiderling stage.
