Care & Husbandry Guide

🏠 Enclosure & Substrate

Use a secure terrestrial enclosure with 4–6+ inches of compactable substrate for larger specimens, along with cork bark or another tight-fitting hide. Prioritize floor space and substrate depth rather than height. Make absolutely sure the lid and ventilation openings are escape-proof—large Scolopendra are incredibly strong and capable of exploiting very small gaps.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

Keep approximately 72–78°F with moderate-to-high moisture availability. Maintain the lower substrate consistently damp while allowing some surface drying between waterings. Always provide fresh water and strong ventilation. Avoid letting the entire enclosure become either bone dry or waterlogged.

 🍽️ Feeding & Water 

Captive-bred juveniles can be offered appropriately sized crickets or roaches 1–2 times per week while growing. Adults can receive larger prey approximately once weekly depending on body condition. They’re aggressive predators and usually have an excellent feeding response. Remove uneaten prey when the animal is preparing to molt.

🕷️ Species-Specific Care 

The Chinese Mint Leg is a large Asian Scolopendra that appreciates deeper substrate and access to consistent moisture. Give it a secure ground-level retreat with enough substrate to burrow beneath it. Keep part of the enclosure moist while still providing good ventilation rather than keeping everything saturated. These are powerful, extremely fast centipedes, so enclosure security is just as important as the actual husbandry.
