Theraphosa blondi (Goliath Bird Eater)
The Largest Tarantula in the world!
The Goliath Bird-Eater (Theraphosa blondi) is a true legend in the tarantula world. Holding the record for the largest tarantula on Earth, this colossal species has been documented reaching an unbelievable 11 inches in leg span and weighing up to 6 ounces—a true giant among giants. Unlike its more common relative, the Theraphosa stirmi, the blondi reigns supreme as the ultimate heavyweight champion of the tarantula kingdom. This particular female is a standout example of the species. Currently 6 inches in leg span, she’s well on her way to achieving her full, gargantuan size. Even better, she’s captive bred, meaning she doesn’t share the defensive temperament often seen in wild-caught blondi. In fact this gentle giant only ever kicks hairs when she’s in pre molt! Seeing as it is so hard to find a Blondi with such a docile and calm demeanor, making she’ll make a rare and desirable addition for any serious collector.
Experience level - Intermediate (This species contains urticating hairs that, in rare cases can cause blindness if it gets in your eyes)
Personality - relaxed, used to handling, calm and non-defensive
Adult Size - 10 to 11 inches
Current Size - 6+ inches DLS
Age - 18 months
Care - This is a large terrestrial tarantula that requires a very big enclosure! I recommend you put her in an enclosure big enough to house a full grown adult that way there’s no need for a rehouse later on! She’s going to require humidity so make sure her substrate is moist but not soaked! Lastly give her a water dish and that’s it!
