Xenenthis sp. “Light” - Shiny Colombian Bird Eater

A Turquoise Giant Unlike Any Other

If your like me and collect Xenenthis… then you know most species within the genus tend to look fairly similar… Xenenthis sp. “Light” completely breaks that mold. This is without question the most visually distinct and seldomly seen species in the genus. Native to Colombia’s cooler mountainous regions, this massive terrestrial thrives at 70–75°F and develops a coloration that sets it leagues apart from its relatives. Mature females display a shiny turquoise-blue body with a bright pink carapace! Under the right lighting, the legs gleam with a lacquered teal sheen that simply does not exist in other Xenenthis species. Where most Xenenthis lean brown and subdued, the “Light” looks polished, radiant, and unmistakably exotic.

And then there’s the size.

Reaching 8+ inches in diagonal leg span, this is a true Colombian heavyweight. Thick-bodied, powerful, and imposing, yet surprisingly steady in movement. They prefer a terrestrial setup with deep substrate, moderate humidity in the lower layers, and room to stretch those massive legs. Now like all Xenenthis species their feeding response is Confident and aggressive! Which is exactly what you’d expect from a giant Colombian bird eater.

A True Display Specimen!

Keep in mind, Xenenthis sp. “Light” availability in the U.S. hobby is extremely limited. This is not a species you see floating around every month. For serious collectors of South American giants, or anyone wanting a true statement piece that almost nobody else owns. The Shiny Colombian Bird Eater is in a class of its own. Because most Xenenthis species are visually similar, the fact that this one stands out so dramatically only adds to its desirability. It’s not just rare, it’s recognizably rare! In a genus where many species blend together, Xenenthis sp. Light commands attention. In other words, this is the kind of tarantula that makes fellow hobbyists stop mid-conversation and say, “Wait… what is that?” It’s bold. It’s massive. It’s unmistakably different. And in a market flooded with look-alike giants, owning a truly distinct Xenenthis feels special. If you’re the type of keeper who appreciates rarity, visual impact, and having something that almost no one else has this is your opportunity. Once this breeding pair is gone, it could be years before you see another one surface.
